Christmas for Coho
Christmas for Coho is a nonprofit project that recycles Christmas trees by placing them in Oregon wetlands to provide habitat for juvenile salmon and other wildlife. The trees are collected at several locations around the Portland area after Christmas. The public is invited to drop off their tree along with a nominal processing fee, and then the group organizes work parties in which volunteers move the trees into local rivers, streams, tidal zones and other ares where young salmon can use them as protection from predators.
This volunteer project is run by the Tualatin Valley chapter of Trout Unlimited and is funded by a grants, fees from tree collection, membership dues, and donations.
