  2019 Westmoreland Casting Pond Stewardship Day

WHAT:  Come lend a hand working with the City of Portland Department of Parks and Recreation to clean debris from the pond in preparation for it being filled.  The pond is one of the largest casting facilities in the world, and we are fortunate to still have it for public use.  Maintenance funds are always in short supply, so our volunteer support is important.
 
WHERE:  Meet at the west side of the Westmoreland Casting Pond, SE 22nd Avenue and Rex Street, just off of McLoughlin Boulevard.
 
WHEN:  Saturday, March 16th from 8:30 am until 1200 noon.

  Come Join Us on the Board! 

Your Tualatin Valley TU Chapter could use a couple of additional Board members.  The job description is pretty simple.  The Board meets monthly at 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month (some months with no meeting needed) in the downstairs meeting room at the American Legion Hall in Tigard.  Meetings usually last an hour or a bit more.  TVTU has been quite successful in recent years, with projects such as the Christmas for Coho efforts and with good attendance at effective and entertaining Chapter meetings held most months at the Lucky Lab in Multnomah Village.  But we can always use fresh energy and fresh ideas.  If you are interested and would like to come to one of the Board meetings to test the water (barbless hook only), please contact Mike Gentry at  michaelgentry04@comcast.net or (503) 636-0061.  This is a feel-good volunteer opportunity.
  

Meetings Location and Dates

Regular chapter meetings are held at the Lucky Labrador Public House 7675 SW Capitol Hwy. Portland, OR 97219 (503) 244-2537.  Food and beverage available.  Social get together starts at 6:30 pm and formal meeting starts at 7:00 pm unless otherwise noted in the newsletter or website.

March Meeting - March 13 - Mike McCoy

Through out the years I have had flies in numerous magazines and books here in the USA, Japan, Canada and England. For over 20 years I have been owner of Snake Brand Guides as we manufacture components for companies here in the US and in numerous countries as well as individual rod builders all of the world. I have been fortunate to have been a controller at 2 world championships and several qualifying events for Team USA. 

We will discuss techniques used in World Competitions, discuss the history of Euro Style Nymphing. Talk about the flies that are especially effective and how to fish these flies. Last week our Team USA took a Silver Medal in a Competition in South Africa.
