President's Column - Sept./Oct. 2017

Welcome back to our season of monthly  meetings.  If you have never attended a chapter meeting, this is a good time to try the pizza and ale at Lucky Lab and meet other TVTU members.  This year we will have some great speakers.  I have already booked Stacie Kelsey, Michael Gorman, Terry Turner, and Rob Crandall.  There will be more in the following months until June, 2018. I look forward to seeing  you there.

TVTU’s volunteers are the backbone of our activities.  As I finish my term as chapter president, I have been reflecting on how those activities have changed.  We now have many more youth outreach and education events.  Recently I got a notice about a volunteer training event for Trout Unlimited and Girl Scouts of America for “STREAM Girls”, an environmental education program.  Before this, I had never heard of a connection between the organizations.  To my surprise, a few days later, I received a note from a new volunteer who was eager to participate and had an interest in both GSA and TU.  We can use your capable and energetic help in a number of other areas.   One narrowly specific example is making the park reservation for TVTU’s annual picnic.  We need a resident of the City of Tigard to make the internet reservation in January in order to get a discounted rate.  If you can do this, please contact me.
