THE TROUT LINE

August 2, 2021

Welcome to The Trout Line Newsletter! This is our Tualatin Valley Trout Unlimited Chapter newsletter that will be coming out twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month.

Tualatin River Keepers Summer Camp

Michael Gentry spent time at the Tualatin River Keepers Summer Camp teaching the kids at Dirksen Nature Park in Tigard about fly fishing.  They had two good sessions with four kids in the morning session and 9 kids in the afternoon.  He talked about bugs and their life cycles, the factors affecting the health of a stream or river, and the life cycle of salmon and the travails they faced (and vastly diminishing numbers) from egg to return from the ocean to spawn.  The kids liked looking at Michael's various fly boxes and guessing what some of the flies represented.  The kids got to use the practice casting rods to get some practice casting.  It was a great way to introduce the kids to fly fishing and to give them a better understanding of the ecosystem of fish.
