Sept/Oct President's Column

In July, at the annual TVTU picnic, we had a crowd of 50 people attending.  This included TVTU members and our guests from Stonefly Maidens and Clackamas River chapter of TU.  It was a great gathering and a new record high for attendance at the picnic.  This was our best picnic ever!  I admit to thinking that every year, but the weather really was perfect and the temperature very comfortable.  Also, there were no biting insects.  Thanks to all of the volunteers who made it such an enjoyable evening on the river.  Dick Hollenbeck and Terry Turner from CR TU handled th cooking at the barbeques, and Mike Gentry and Mark Rogers from TVTU did the reservation and shopping chores.  If you are interested in volunteering, TVTU has plenty of other opportunities.  I encourage everyone to try something new.  This year I volunteered for the first time at the bird festival and the Tualatin River Keeper's kid fishing day.  It was like a breath of fresh air for me to work with such friendly and energetic kids.

Our September chapter meeting will resume our monthly meetings.  We have an excellent group of speakers with interesting new programs.  The ones I have booked include Scott Richmond, Michael Gorman, Tom Wolf, Rob Crandall, Dave Hughes, and Mia and Marty Sheppard.  This should be a fun season of meetings and I hope to see you there.
